Our own video looking at Dracthyr lore
We have made our first video!!
Joining the theme of today’s issue, I wanted to look at the lore of the dracthyr and give my insights on the changes coming to the race and how this might affect their future.
Please check it out, like and subscribe as I would like to make more videos in the future.
The Dracthyr are joining us mortals
When the dracthyr were released, at the start of dragonlfight, they were mutually exclusive with the new evoker class.
The new evoker class was based around being a dragon, using the powers of the various flights to empower your character with spells and abilities.
These ranged from breathing fire, flying using your wings and even healing.
This class was designed with the dracthyr in mind, hence they were mutually exclusive.
Playing a dragon humanoid, in the dragon expansion, using dragon powers, was very much the theme Blizzard was trying to invoke, and you could argue that they were successful.
However, I always felt that the dracthyr were lacking something.
Sure they were powerful, had a rich backstory, and had loads of customisation options, but they never felt real (which I appreciate is a stupid thing to say about a fantasy race that doesn’t exist).
When playing an orc, for example, I know that I could go down the traditional route of being a warrior and swing a big axe hitting as much as I can.
But if I chose I could instead be a wise shaman using the elements to damage my enemies.
Or I could be a warlock and summon an army of demons to do my bidding. All of these are viable playable options and give the race of orcs a real society feel.
You know as a player there are others out there, real-world players and NPC’s, that live in this orc society where their characters have different stories and perspectives, but all share one thing in common, they are orcs.
The Dracthyr don’t have this.
They are all one class, one backstory, one perspective.
While it is true you can role-play them however you want, give them varied and different stories. They still feel like one (very rich) character.
But things are changing.
With patch11.0.5 the Dracthyr are no longer mutually exclusive with the evoker, while they are still the only race that can play evoker they are also getting access to 6 other classes.
Unfortunately, you will still have to hold out hope for the bear and cat forms the druids could offer the dracthyr. You can now play as a dracthyr warrior, hunter, rouge, priest, mage or warlock.
This means that the dracthyr will start to feel like a more complete society, with their ranks being filled with more than just evokers, their diversity and complexity will expand.
While I don’t think Blizzard will put a focus on the dracthyr moving forward, i do hope they give some nods to the dracthyr discovering these new classes, and expanding their society to fill new roles.
So what do you think?
Are the new classes available to the dracthyr enough to make you consider playing one?
What class do you intend on playing?
