Why solo doesn't mean alone

Also news, guides and tips

Welcome to the solommo,

Issue number 1!!

I am so excited to be writing to all of you.

I got an amazing response to the prototype I sent out to most of you.

When I wrote that prototype and sent it out, I thought that 1 maybe 2 people would so it was o.k and that would be it. Within a couple of hours, I had 10 subs. Amazing.

Because of your support, I feel I need to honour a weekly newsletter.

So to start I wanted to explain what this newsletter is and what my intent is.

To start I want this to be a resource for playing wow, I will collate what I consider to be the most relevant news of the week for a solo player. Filter out all the news regarding content that isn’t for solo players (i.e raid, m+, rated pvp etc).

I want to include guides to help you out with parts of the game that might interest you (delves, mount collection, collectables, gearing etc.)

I am a big fan of economy content and professions, so I would like to give you content in this area.

Also, I like the idea of a featured transmog (because I love transmog), more on that at the end…

There will also be an article, based on something I think is worth talking about and relevant to how I think you play the game. This week it is: why playing solo doesn’t mean playing alone.

Finally, I want this publication to provide a safe community. A place where you can share your experiences, ask questions, and boast about your achievements, all in a safe, respectful place where there are no stupid questions. Playing solo doesn’t mean playing alone (that may become our slogan).

I also want to hear from you, please give me your feedback and ideas. This can be a space where we grow together. This is just the start, hopefully over time there will be more ideas and we can filter out the stuff you don’t like and provide more of what you do like.

Just by reading this, you are already helping out massively, but I am greedy so I am going to ask for more. Please share this publication on your social media, tell a friend, comment, like and all that social media goodness.

Why playing solo doesn’t mean playing alone

But as a solo player, I don’t play with anyone else.

Then why play an MMO at all?

This is a difficult question with a different answer depending on the player.

Some players will play an MMO because they enjoy the RPG elements.

Others enjoy the lore.

Some players used to play with friends, but life has changed and there is now less time or fewer people playing.

Then there are players who tried group content, received abuse for not knowing what to do and never went back (this is me by the way).

However, what they all have in common is that none of them are alone.

An MMO like World of Warcraft has a vibrant community.

The game is based on a world of citizens who experience the narrative that the developers impliment. You are one of these citizens. One is the important word here.

World of Warcraft is about being one of the players experiencing the world. You share this experience with all of the other players, forming a community.

Even if you are not actively participating in forums, guilds, raid groups etc. you are still part of this world.

That is the appeal of an MMO.

I always thought I was a true solo player. I never did group content, I never posted on forums, and none of my friends played World of Warcraft. I just enjoyed zoning out and playing casually to relax.

But I soon realised that being a player in this world is about joining the journey with everyone else going about their journey, levelling, raiding, gearing, making gold. That was what I enjoyed and why I played World of Warcraft more than I played solo RPG games.

With World of Warcraft making more of a focus on solo content in the war within, now is the time to look at how you play, why you play, and what community are you a part of.

This is why I have made this newsletter.

I want this to be a space for you to come get your relevant news, learn more about what you care about, and most importantly be part of your community.

A community that plays solo, but not alone.

We can share advice, tips and insights into the world.

This can be the community that you build and you want to be part of.

I need your help…

If you wouldn’t mind please share this publication and talk about it, so more people can join and help build this community.

Also, you may have seen above I am planning a featured transmog section. This means I need transmogs to feature, this is where you come in.

If you would like to show off your transmog and get featured in this publication, please email in an image/screenshot of your transmog and the best will be featured in this section along with a shout-out for you.

Thank you

Thank you for reading.

If you have the time I would appreciate your feedback.

Let me know what you like.

What you didn’t like.
